Why do some presuppose that humans have rights while other, non-human, entities do not? What about animals whose capabilities are equivalent to "damaged" humans? Should we enlarge the domain of rights-bearing creatures, or must we appeal to a genetically-based "speciesism" to maintain a unique moral status for humans? Just how should we use animals? Is there a tension between the animal-rights movement and those who see the environment as possessing some manner of rights?
